"Great Grand Parents" on my mothers side

Mama and Papa

I remember Papa and mama well. They lived up the red dirt road from my grandparents. They had horses ,goats and pigs. I loved going up to the house and always hoped to see the horses. When I got lucky papa would catch a horse for me to ride. I once told him I'd give him a quarter to catch a horse. He laughed., Papa had a very distict laugh and a deep southern draw. I remeber him always wearing a white hat. Maybe I am just dreaming that up,I'll have to find out if he really did.
I remember Papa always being on his big farm tractor. He died out on his tractor plowing. I think he had a heart attack and fell off from what I recall. I think I was in 4th grade. I remember getting picked up from school to go to Alabama for the funeral.

Mama was always on the porch visiting or cooking. She was not as attentive to me as papa was.

After papa died Mama lived several more years.
I have fond memories of playing on their land and the family members all meeting there.

Mama lived to be in her 90's. I want to say 96.  I remember when we would go visit she would tell us she might not be living next time we came down. Mom told me Mama told her that when she was a little girl. She ended up having a long life!

My Great Grandparents~ Dad's Side

On June 2, 2005 dad sent me a couple pictures. I still have the email. I never met them. My Grandmother was adopted. I am not sure if we have any pictures.

I remember dad telling me he was around 7 in this photo. Dad said a man went door to door with a pony asking to take photos. When I was small I saw this and thought  dad had a horse once. My bubble was burst!

I think Dad was in High School here. Maybe 16.

Old family pictures

(My Grandmother ) Iva Mae Petty, Bruce, Mama, Exa, Martha and Brenda. This picture was probably taken at Mama's house. Mama is my great Grandmother. Years??

This is My Grandmother and Grandfather. Iva Mae Petty and A.D. Petty.  It looks like thier front yard. My Grandaddy drove a Red Wing Truck. I think Mom said he hauled Gas. When I was little my Aunt Barbara whom was the youngest child would sing a song she made up to us. It went like this., "My Grandaddy drives a Red Wing A Red Wing all over the town". It was a catchy tune.
My grand mother worked at Regal Glove factory.
My mother told me  that my yGrandmother made friends with several women that lasted for years at the factory. They went to one of their homes and had a picnic one time. She remembers it was something unusual for them to do. They mostly stayed home all the time, except some Sat nights they went to the drive-in in Greenville. It was mostly westerns or the Bowery Boys, because that's what her Daddy liked. Mom said she hated Randolph Scott. He was her Daddy's favorite.

Rufus Petty

Rufus was the only son to A.D. and Iva Mae Petty.

Rufus
My Uncle Rufus  was killed in a car wreck and was buried on my first Birthday, February 20,1965.  Rufus was in his early 20's. I think my mother told me 21. I never knew Rufus,  I have heard many stories.

My Grandparents had this photo in her house. Even though he died in his early 20's this is how I always think of  Rufus.
